Q: What kind of team culture would you consider the most effective?

A: Team culture has many facets, and everyone looks at this differently. I believe this is true because everyone places a different value on what energizes them. I like to work where I am empowered, where there is mutual respect and transparency, and where I can have fun.

Q: What does a successful leadership/upper management team look like to you?

A: A successful leadership team is cohesive with a clear direction. The leadership team should set the strategy for the business and remove roadblocks. They should be engaged in the business and know enough of the detail to make sound decisions when needed.

Q: How do you think is the best way to retain high-performing employees?

A: As mentioned earlier, I feel the best way to retain team members is to create a culture where people want to stay and where they would recommend their friends to work. This means building a work environment where people are empowered, and their opinions are heard. Finally, we need to create an environment where they can excel.

Q: What is our strategy around employee well-being/health/morale in the workplace? How do you feel about work-life balance?

A: Employee well-being can only be influenced to an extent by the leadership team. It is very much a two-way street. With that said, I believe in flexible work schedules and understand that we all have unexpected needs outside of work. Long term, having too much work is not sustainable. We need to look for methods to create efficiencies in our work. And finally, we need to ensure we are adequately staffed for the work. This will allow us to cross-train to ensure we don't need to think of work when we are away from work constantly. There will be people there to handle that for you.
